WHAT SUITS YOU BETTER

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is practiced by physicians in the United States and worldwide, and has been shown to be effective in treating many musculoskeletal conditions, including tendinopathies, ligament sprains, back and neck pain, tennis/golfer’s elbow, ankle pain, joint laxity and instability, plantar fasciitis, shoulder, knee, and other joint pain.

The solutions used then (and now) were primarily dextrose-based. This technique is FDA approved, non-surgical procedure that is a less invasive and less costly alternative to surgery.

The physiology behind the technique is actually quite simple. "Prolo" is short for proliferation, as it causes the formation and growth of new tissue at the insertion of ligaments and tendons ( joints).

Corticoid shot

Cortisone shots are well known to dramatically increase the breakdown of articular cartilage within joints. A single injection can impair cartilage regeneration for up to 16 weeks.

According to a study funded in part by the NIH’s National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), rather than showing any benefit, the results revealed that the injections sped the loss of the cartilage that cushions the knee joint.

If you are considering an steroid shot know that you are setting you up for failure, because without a doubt you will need surgery down the road.
